Microchipping

The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015, made under section 12 of The Animal Welfare Act 2006, came into effect on 24th February 2015. However, although some of the provisions of the act came into effect in February 2015 the requirement for all dogs over the age of 8 weeks in England to be fitted with a microchip came into effect on 6th April 2016.

Lost or stray dogs will be reunited with their owners thanks to microchipping. Under the new measures, all owners must ensure their dog is microchipped and their details are kept up to date. Not only will this mean the UK’s 8.5 million dogs can be returned to their owners more quickly if they wander too far from home, but it will also make it easier to track down the owners of dogs that carry out attacks on people.

We use the Animal Tracker system which is fully compliant with current legislation relating to registration and record keeping for dogs. Animal Tracker operates a 24-hour telephone number for lost and found pets which is manned 365 days a year.

For a small fee, we can visit you in the safety and comfort of your home and microchip your pet to ensure that you comply with the current law and so that if you pet should be found when it escapes, you will be reunited with it quickly.

We are competent and experienced in microchipping puppies, as well as older dogs. Somerset Pet Services breed and microchip our own dogs, and microchip for various breeders locally. Therefore, if you are a breeder and would like your puppies microchipped before they go off to their new forever-homes then please get in touch.

The charge for microchipping is £10 per pup, I can do the chipping in your own home if local or I will travel a little further if fuel costs are covered.
